Sicily Pavilion at Vinitaly 2011

The Client

The Regional Vine and Wine Institute (IRVV) - a body formed in 1950, in charge of the protection, advancement and promotion of vine growing and wine production in Sicily.

The Assignment

Vinitaly with more than 150,000 visitors for each edition is one of the most prestigious wine exhibit in the world.
The Sicily pavilion has always been one of the main attractions, but for the 2011 edition the IRVV really wanted blow visitors' socks off - and not just with the quality of their wines.

With over 24,000 sq. ft. and more than 200 exhibitors, and sometime a little bit of alcohol clouding your judgment, it's easy to get lost.

This year an integrated system of communication WiFi based, through a mesh of QR codes, interactive kiosks and mobile apps, was driving visitors at ease from one booth to the next one.

For this project, once again Thöndo teamed up with InformAmuse to create the look and feel and design of the entire digital framework.

Production

Combining the expertise of both InformAmuse and Thöndo the entire interface was developed in less than a month.

Among other functionalities, the "Find me" section in the iPhone app shows the pavilion layout, but with a twist. A QR scanner is immediately available to scan any of the QR's distributed in the pavilion, to learn about exhibitor's information, to locate yourself, or to find the shortest route between any two booths.

If all this is not enough, you may socialize your mood, upload pictures and comments to the Facebook page of the event, accessing it in the "More" section.

The Results

In the 5 days of the trade show the system was accessed more 30,000 times to collect information about the 200 exhibitors.

The interactive guide of the Sicily Pavilion at Vinitaly 2011 is available for iPhone and iPod touch on the Apple Store (Free download).
